Ce dimanche 20 mai 2012 a eu lieu les Billboard Music Awards et c’est sans surprise la chanteuse Adele qui a tout raflé.
Adele a remporté 12 prix lors de la cérémonie dont la meilleure Artiste et le meilleur Album pour « 21 ». LMFAO a obtenu 6 récompenses, grâce à « Party Rock Anthem », tandis que Lil Wayne et Coldplay décrochent 4 trophées et Lady Gaga en remporte deux.
Du côté des performances, Justin Bieber a chanté « Boyfriend », Chris Brown « Turn Up The Music » en playback (ce qui a provoqué la rage de Pink) et Usher s’est produit sur « Scream ». Carly Rae Jepsen a également chanté « Call Me Maybe », Katy Perry a dévoilé « Wide Awake », Nelly Furtado « Big Hoops » et Alicia Keys a chanté avec Stevie Wonder.
Des hommages ont été rendus aux stars décédées récemment, comme Whitney Houston, dont un medley a été chanté par John Legend et Jordin Sparks, ou Donna Summer célébrée par Natasha Bedingfield, ou Adam 'MCA' Yauch par Cee-Lo Green sur "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)".
